ED Faxed SDP 2/28/07 Ham Incident 2/27/07 Last night writer heard WDS staff Paul wretching/vomiting in the staff bathroom, "It's the ham! The ham is bad, it's no good. I've got food poisoning." Student XXXXX became visibly upset, "I just ate half a piece. Should I go make myself vomit?" Writer advised, "No it's not the ham -- food poisoning takes more than 5 minutes and the food is good here..." XXXXX (laying on the hallway table) states, "I just ate the ham and I don't feel good either." Writer advised oncoming HLO to dissipate the myths of "the ham incident." This am, both XXXXX and XXXXX M insist on going to the ER for GI complaints. Dr. Egelston was advised and will see them today. XXXXX did not eat the ham-- he kept down the chicken noodle soup of last night and was evaluated by Dr. Robinson yesterday at 1:15 for gastroenteritis and started on XXXXXXX. He refuses xxxxxx suppositories to date and is encouraged to take sips of water and/or juice. Vital signs are stable and he should be past withdrawal. XXXXX states, "I've got food poisoning, I know what it feels like." He was given phenergan oral last night and vomited it up. He refuses to date suppositories. "I need to see the doctor so that I can get on with the program." Writer questions whether he is being honest with drug history. EANicks, RN, BSN cc: Paul
