Manitoba Premier Gary Filmon has called
Filmon is the leader of the Progressive Conservative party of Manitoba. Filmon, who is Canada's longest-serving premier, is looking for his fourth term in office.
Filmon says this election is about people. He says his party will strive to build a Manitoba people want to live in.
Filmon says the main focus will be the economy and lower taxes. A stronger economy, he says, will mean more money for social programs.
NDP leader Gary Doer doesn't believe that Premier Filmon can be trusted with the province's health care. He said that the quality of health care worsened despite Filmon's promises. He points out that during Manitoba's last election campaign in 1995, Filmon promised to add hundreds of personal care home beds, but broke that promise after he was re-elected.
Manitoba's Liberal leader Jon Gerrard knows he is the underdog. He hopes his party can get 10 to 15 seats on election day.
The Conservatives held a majority government when Manitoba's provincial legislature was dissolved. Filmon's party held 31 seats, while Doer's New Democrats held 23, and Gerrard's Liberals had two.
