| Carnegie
Mellon University in Qatar celebrated our Grand Opening a little
over one year after we've been present in Doha. We had more
visitors on campus that we have staff and faculty combined.
Needless to say it was a lot of work.
One of the visitors we had was Arne
Suppe. He is a Graduate Student that worked with Justin and
David in Pittsburgh. He brought some robotic Segways for
research in the robotics lab.

The end of the week's activities was
the big Gala party! The Gala event was held in a tent on the
proposed site of our building (to be finished in 2007). |
| We
proposed a Cheese Themed Progressive Dinner to our Riviera apartment
building neighbors. Every course had to contain cheese!
It was a great excuse for us to clean our homes and get together!
Course 1: Appetizer

Hosted by the Duke Family,
Cheeseball Camel with crackers, carrots and celery for
dipping. We had everyone take their cheese profile on the
internet and we had mood music playing: "I like Cheese because
it's made from Milk, I like Cheese because it's good".
Course 2: Soup

Hosted by the Carlson Family, Cheesy
Broccoli and Potato Soup. Justin and Marjorie set the
bar high!
Course 3: Salad

Hosted by the Gaus Family, Salad with
Cheese. We spent some time playing with their new pet--a
little kitten named Heidi. |
Course 4: Main Dish

Hosted by Darlene Everhart and Lowell
Taylor. We had a Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Dish (there aren't
words for how good this was) and some Macaroni and Cheese (Lowell's
uncle's recipe). He burned it a little bit so he had fun
cracking jokes at himself and of course the rest of us chimed in to
help him. He took it like a champ! Honestly, the Mac and
Cheese was good!
Course 5: Dessert

Hosted by the Duke Family at the Robertson's
Home. We had Cheesecake with a chocolate graham cracker crust,
Hazlenut Coffee and tea.
Course 6:
Entertainment

Hosted by the Robertson Family, they provided
us with Cheesy Snacks and a Cheesy Movie-Grease! |

We had a suicide
bomber take his life and the life of one other on the 19th. The
Egyptian man living in Doha drove his Land Cruiser into the backside
of Doha Players Theater. He took his own life and the life of
Jonathan Adams a Briton living and working here. Jon was the
director of the play.
Many Qatari people
have spoken out against this violence, even holding a protest rally
against terrorism. About 1,000 people attended. |

Who is having more fun here, the students or
David?
|
The students planned a fun day
that took place right outside the front of the Cornell Medical
building (we are operating from there for now). They had water
balloons, squirt guns, the blow up slide as well as some shaving
cream.
