Regarding animals in cities in Ranos... No, 500 lb. wolves and giant owls will not be accepted into any settlement. However, Ranos has developed a compromise with the druids and rangers who do so much to keep the roads and wilderness within the kingdom safe (remember that Ranos still has LOTS of wild areas - encouraging the masters of the wild to at least be non-hostile to the kingdom is rather important). Basically, each city has a small grove of trees just outside it somewhere. This area is maintained by a druid or a small group of druids and rangers, who will take temporary custody of animal companions while their humanoid partners go into the city. This keeps the animal companions safe, and also keeps the citizens safe from the animal companions. Think of it as a child care center. :-) So when Gridley and Tara's Druid go into Fenwick City, they first stop off at the edge of the woods to the southwest of the city (Fenwick City's Druid Grove is actually a small forest, reflecting the importance the Duke attaches to such things) and leave their wolves there.
