Reading from CRTs is slower than reading from paper (Gould, 1987 as cited in Neilsen, 1995; Landauer, 1995; Leventhal et al., 1993)
Hypermedia systems have shown mixed results
- SuperBook system was superior for searching (Egan et al., 1995; Landauer, 1995)
- Hyperties system was slower for searching (Schneiderman, 1987a as cited in Neilsen, 1995)
- a hypertext Pascal code browser was faster when the participants where presented with a view of the structure of the information (Monk, Walsh, & Dix, 1988 as cited in Neilsen, 1995)
- a hypermedia system used to teach Japanese demonstrated no difference (Tripp & Roby, 1990)
