Research

I'm the Director of Research for the Center for AI and Patent Analysis. My current research directions include:

• Custom NLP algorithms and datasets for processing patent text

• I'm especially interested in circumventing the technical barriers to understanding legal text, so software can "understand" patents much like a patent professional would

• Neural networks for NLP

• The Cascade Correlation deep learning algorithm

• Adapting the patent system to AI and NLP technologies

• Patent Policy and Operations
