The ROAMS robot is a development program for a reconnaissance robot for infiltration into denied areas. The robot uses GPS and compass navigation through waypoints to final destinations for autonomous infiltrate, observe, and return missions. Sonar and infra-red proximity sensors are used for local obstacle avoidance and wall following. The high resolution pan-tilt camera system allows remote supervision of the robot, and an operator may take over command of the robot for tele-operation from a portable base station with a heads up display.
