Stories from across the seam: my recent travels into art practice
Garth Zeglin
3305 Newell-Simon
Hall
Refreshments 4:15 pm
Talk 4:30 pm
I will attempt to elucidate why my new second career as an artist is
so much fun. I will present documentation of my projects, as well as
present work from others whom I have found influential, or at least,
fascinating. The focus will be on fabric and robotic sculpture.
The talk will include a robotics interlude:
Passive Dead Reckoning Compensation for a Tensile Manipulator
Tensile manipulators using capstan winches can offer high speed
and large workspace, but suffer from substantial dead reckoning
drift. A novel passive solution will be presented for dead
reckoning compensation utilizing an obstacle collision strategy
implemented via trajectory selection.
Dr. Garth Zeglin is a Project Scientist in the Robotics Institute
working with Chris Atkeson on a bipedal walking robot. However, his
CMU appointment is half-time, and he spends his other half on a
variety of projects including robotic and fabric sculpture.
