Lecture Slides

The slides for Chapters 15-17 will be released by December 31, 2025.

In case it is helpful to have an example of teaching with these slides, or if you wish to share a resource with students, Jonathan Aldrich has created a YouTube channel that uses these slides to cover the material in the textbook: https://tinyurl.com/PLP5vids

Solutions to End-of-Chapter Exercises

The solutions manual contains suggested solutions to many of the book’s exercises.  The manual is provided only to instructors who have adopted the text in their course.  Please treat it as confidential.

The solutions manual is currently incomplete; we’re still missing solutions to some exercises.  Please send us any solutions you develop!

Suggested Projects

The respository of suggested projects is drawn largely from Prof. Scott’s years of teaching CSC 254 (Programming Language Design and Implementation) at the University of Rochester.  All materials are copyrighted by the author(s) but released for non-commercial use under terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license

Some of the projects include suggested solutions, or embed solutions to other projects; please be wary of this when handing passing on to students.  Also, all of the projects can be solved, at least in large part, but generative AI, making them of little use for assessment purposes.  They are best regarded as as learning tools for the student who undertakes them without help.
