Short Bio
Mr. Foessel is a Robotics
PhD Candidate in Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh (expected graduation in
December of 2001). His dissertation investigates short-range millimeter-wave
radar as a sensing modality for autonomous-vehicle operations under
compromised visibility. In this investigation, Mr. Foessel has developed a radar interpreter
to generate more accurate scene models from this noisy sensor. Also in
his doctoral program, he participated in the development of a planetary explorer
prototype and in field demonstrations in Atacama Desert and ice fields
in Antarctica. Previously he participated for three years in the
design, implementation, and testing of weapons control systems for missile
boats; this development included radar and visual tracking of targets. Mr.
Foessel obtained a MS in Industrial Automation and a Engineering
Degree in Electrical Engineering and Business from the Pontificia Universidad
Católica, Santiago, Chile.
