Malini Fonseka

The Queen of Sri Lankan Cinema

A Tribute from Pittsburgh Sri Lankan Community

Malini Fonseka is not just a legendary actress — she is the soul of Sri Lankan cinema. For generations, she has captivated audiences with her grace, power, and breathtaking performances, earning a permanent place in the hearts of millions.

From February 7th to 9th of 2008, our small yet vibrant Sri Lankan community in Pittsburgh was graced by her presence. we are a modest and small group — but to Malini, that never mattered. With humility and warmth, she visited our top drama institutions like the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, CMU's Entertainment Technology Center and paid her respects at the Pittsburgh Buddhist Center, giving each space her full heart.

Malini’s genius is pure and instinctive — a born artist who rose to iconic heights without any formal training in acting. And beyond the screen, her compassion knew no bounds. She was a source of comfort to those who were hurting, a helping hand to anyone in need — regardless of race or religion. To her, only our shared humanity mattered. Today, we honor Malini Fonseka — not only for her unmatched artistry, but for the deep kindness that defined her life. We celebrate her now, and forever.
