Jetball

Jetball is a game similar to air hockey. A ping pong ball replaces the puck, and instead of a plastic striker, each player controls two pivoting air jets. Ball control should be fairly easy due to the Bernoulli principle, which is the main basis of the toy.

An air hockey style game created in this way has a few advantages over traditional air hockey, especially for younger children. The pucks normally used are made of hard plastic, and tend to skip off the table at high speeds, causing bruised knuckles. Fingers can also be pinched between the plastic striker and puck. A ping pong ball has much lower mass and will not cause these minor injuries.

Jetball will also enjoy a lower construction cost than traditional air hockey. The table does not need to be perforated to allow the puck to travel easily. A lower flow rate of air is required, allowing the use of a smaller compressor with lower power draw. A Jetball unit should be about as durable as an air hockey unit. In extreme cases, the ping pong ball may need to be replaced, but ping pong balls are readily available and inexpensive.
