--This Portfolio is a log of all the activities that we did in class and what I have learned from them...on to the fun!!!

Projects---

Toy Concepts

Idea 1

Idea 2

Idea 3

This was the first project assigned to us where we had to come up with three toys that children would like.  This was a good project to do first because it really got us thinking about the process, but did not require us to make a real prototype.  Because of this we did not have any constraints on our ideas.  In other words they did not have to be practical.

Manufacturing process Reports

Molding

Even though we didn't finish this project it was great to learn about the different processes.  We learned about molding.  And to be honest there wasn't much to learn

Take Our Daughters to Work

This gave us the opportunity to present kids in the age group of our project the concept that we were trying to teach.   This was the real test of our projects because during Meeting of the Minds we did not have the chance to teach the kids.

Meeting of the Minds

Meeting of the Minds gave us the opportunity to present to adults, and get feedback on what they would do different to present to children.  I did not think that this was really fun because the adults didn't really care about our projects, because they weren't meant for them.  They seemed to have more fun at the presentations upstairs

Exercises---

Role Mole

Pictures

This was the first activity where we had to come in with a real working prototype.  I really didn't appreciate how hard it was going to be.  I left this for the night before and really had trouble coming up with ideas.  I was forced to have a really non creative idea.

Garfield

Pictures

Garfield was a fun project.  I started a lot earlier and brainstormed different can configurations.  I also took other things into account that other people didn't.  If Garfield was to drink one of the cans, all of the other cans had to stay in the holder.  I realized that some peoples designs depended on all 6 cans being in the holder.  My design took this into consideration.  I also made it out of one sheet of cardboard, while other people made theirs out of many little parts that could get lost.

Activities---

Toy Dissection

This was a fun thing to do on the first day because we are all engineers and we love to take things apart to see how they work.  It was a good activity because we had to figure out how it worked before we could open it up.  When we did open it up we found that it was done a different way than we had thought and this let us realize that there were multiple ways of making the toy work.  We came up with one, but the toy used another.

IronCAD labs

Our part looks like this

I really enjoyed the IronCAD labs because now I am into the program and love using it to design stuff personally.  I have gone to the lab many times by myself to learn how to use different parts of the program.

Design/Build (newspaper)

Pictures

This activity was one of the ones that taught us about constraints.  We couldn't just draw it and expect it to be buildable.  We had to learn how to do two things.

1. First we had to learned how to write plans so that other people could pick them up and build our design on the spot.

2. We had to be able to pick up plans and build what was on them.  We also had to be able to recognize problems and make changes to improve the plans.

Egg Drop

Pictures

This was the activity that we had to learn about being cost efficient.  There was a lot of team work involved.  We had to buy materials and make the egg survive.  This activity involved all of the things that we had learned.  We had to make plans on paper, and then make what we wanted to.  There were also some changes that we had to make along the way to improve the design, and be cost efficient.

Making Web Pages

My Web Page

The first time that I made webpages was in Highschool ,and I had to do it using raw HTML.  Now I got a chance to use some programs that make it easier, and I am in the process of designing a webpage that can be put on my ANDREW quota.   This like IronCAD was a activity that I did a lot of stuff with outside of class time.

Working in Groups

My Summer Company

I really liked working in groups.  I learned how to divide up work in a group so that everyone is contributing.  My job this summer I will be working in a lot of groups.  I am really looking forward to using my skills.
