Palm Pilot III redesign (08/99, 3 months)
Challenge Evaluate the usability of Palm Pilot III, and redesign it. Develop design recommendations for the Palm IV.
Process Conducted the empirical and analytical usability evaluation techniques such as contextual inquiry, heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthrough, and think aloud user testing to identify the problems that Palm Pilot III has, and came up with two redesign ideas.



This is my sketches which were used for the initial design process, created the "story board" to allow our team to quickly and effectively communicate and build the overall information architecture and interface.
Solution

 

 

 

 

 

Came up with two design solutions: 1. a new style of interaction called the PalmProject which allowed the user to conceptualize these details as different aspects of a single project. 2. PalmLink, which moves buried functionality to higher levels, and clearer labeling of functions. Designed the experiment to compare which is better.

Report has been sent to Palm Computing as a reference for the future development.
