Info Session

Doors open: 2:15 pm

Calling all Carnegie Mellon inventors, creators, and scientists. Are you studying robotics, computer science, psychology, sociology, virtual immersion, sensor technologies, haptics, artificial intelligence or thinking about inventing the future?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to transport your consciousness to another part of the world, and be able to feel the place you’ve gone to? To be present in a distant place, beyond what today’s social media enables? Join us in this informational session to learn more about how XPRIZE is challenging you to think beyond the standard ways that humans connect in the world.

The $10M ANA Avatar XPRIZE is a four-year global competition focused on the development of an Avatar System that will transport a human’s senses, actions, and presence to a remote location in real time, leading to a more connected world. The ANA Avatar XPRIZE seeks to incentivize innovators around the world to integrate a range of emerging and exponential technologies to create a useful and functional physical robotic Avatar System that brings this future closer!

XPRIZE staff will be present to share the vision of the Avatar XPRIZE, and tell you how you can get involved and compete for the $10 Million prize purse. Come with your imaginations, open minds, and questions for the team!

About XPRIZE:
XPRIZE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the global leader in designing and implementing innovative competition models to solve the world’s grandest challenges. XPRIZE utilizes a unique combination of gamification, crowd-sourcing, incentive prize theory, and exponential technologies as a formula to make 10x (vs. 10%) impact in the grand challenge domains facing our world. XPRIZE’s philosophy is that—under the right circumstances— igniting rapid experimentation from a variety of diverse lenses is the most efficient and effective method to driving exponential impact and solutions to grand challenges. Competitions include the $30M Google Lunar XPRIZE, the $20M NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, the $15M Global Learning XPRIZE, the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, the $7M Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE, the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE, the $5M IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, the $1.75M Water Abundance XPRIZE and the $1M Anu & Naveen Jain Women’s Safety XPRIZE.
