Can your code run 10, strike, 1000 times faster?

Moore's Law and other unavoidable trends are conspiring to bring serial code speedups to a standstill. Fortunately, the engineers continue to deliver more performance via alternative hardware approaches. How accessible are these techniques to the practicing scientist, and how applicable are they to your work in particular?

John Urbanic will be joining the Physics Department to enable scientific computing at all levels, from software architecture, algorithm design and code optimization, to locating the best computing resources. He has long experience in these areas and looks forward to this opportunity to introduce himself with both this talk and a very open-ended Q&A session.
