Before Google Was Cool

My experience with the Lycos, from University to Retirement. From researcher to entrepreneur to corporate officer to hobby rancher. I  will describe my experience with building and selling one of the first Internet search engines. I will also discuss some of the things I’ve learned about retiring well and enjoying it.

Dr. Michael Fuzzy Mauldin, is the inventor and chief scientist of the Lycos Internet search engine. He developed the Lycos Search Engine while as a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University.  After retiring in 1997, he competed in the BattleBots TV program from 2000 to 2002, and on the Discovery Channel program “Killer Robots” in 2011. In 2017 he appeared on the BBC TV show Robot Wars as the team captain for the rest of the world team.
