2nd Annual STARS Space Innovation Challenge

Friday, December 7, 2018 - 4:30pm to Saturday, December 8, 2018 - 7:00pm
Career Presentation

The STARS Club (Students at Tepper for Astronautics Rockets & Space) is a professionally-geared student organization within the Tepper School. Last year, we envisioned and executed the first-ever Space Innovation Challenge. The competition was created in the spirit of bringing together the brightest science, engineering, business, and policy minds across campus so as to solve a pressing issue faced by industry on the final frontier.

Competition Details
The case prompt will go live on Friday, November 30, and you'll have one week to brainstorm and hack on a space-themed business problem for the weekend. The competition will convene on December 7, with team presentations being made to a panel of industry experts on Saturday, December 8.

Team Formation
Students from  Tepper, Heinz, CIT and SCS are all invited to join us in this competition. We encourage team formation and cross-collaboration across different schools on campus. In an effort to have a diversity of perspectives within each team, we recommend that no more than two students from any CMU school be on the same team. If this is not a possibility, feel free to create teams consisting of more than two students per school.

Students may form teams of 4 on their own. Just as well, individual students interested in participating may register independently, and the STARS club will try to pair them with other interested CMU students.

Registration Details
Registration is currently open, and will close on Friday, November 26 at 11:59 PM EST.

All entrants must first complete the individual registration. Those with a team assembled must also complete the team registration. Please follow the appropriate link below to first register as an individual and then, if applicable, complete the registration for a team.

Since this competition will be open to other schools, space will be limited so be sure to reserve your spot ASAP!

We have also created a WhatsApp SIC Support Group that interested students may join in an effort to search for teammates and communicate with their classmates.

Why should you attend?

  1. Pitch to industry leaders and make high-profile professional contacts (including judge from Blue Origin!)
  2. Expand your network with students from other CMU schools
  3. Your idea might get funded by the companies in attendance!
  4. Food and drinks on us...two days long.
  5. Registration is free, so why not?
