As champion of the VASC Players Championship held earlier this year, Takeo 'The Golden Bear' Kanade was the favorite. His position was enhanced when Ben 'I-haven't-played-golf-in-a-year-so-give-me-a-high- handicap' Brown and Dave 'Monster Driver' Simon failed to make the cut. The field still included Dean 'The White Shark' Pomerleau, the runner up in the Players Championship, Dirk 'Bernhardt' Langer, and Keiichi 'Nickname to be determined' Kemmotsu. A pleasent surprise was the play of a VASC Senior Tour player Chuck 'Ben - as in Ben Gay' Thorpe. It was rumored that his sponsor, Geritol, had forced him to play by threatening to withhold his arthritis medicine.
The Bear won his second consecutive tourney by posting an 89. The competition was spirited thought as Ben uh I mean Chuck was in contention until an almost unheard of 6-tuple bogey. A strong surge was also mounted by 'The Shark' but he tired late in the round - possibly because he was clearing leaves from the green at every hole so his playing partner could have an unobstructed putting lane.

Horst and Ursla Langer, from the European Tour, commented that, although the competition is good, it is just too far to travel for the European players to play in a golf tourney and it would be nice to have a tourney next year in Europe - possible the VASC German Open. We'll have to talk to our corporate sponsor about that one. Until next year, may you never find a water magnet or land in the sandbox. See ya.
