This animation shows how mesh develops under the Stokes flow. The only mesh maintenance technique used is retriangulation. Example shows that without the refinement and coarsening part, retriangulation alone is not capable of maintaining good or even valid mesh. Mesh gets progressively distorted, particularly around cylinder where good mesh is a must. Simulation eventually breaks down when 2 invalid triangles are encounterred in the vicinity of the cylinder.

This is the same example as above. Animation focuses on the area around the cylinder. At the end of simulation, extremely skewed triangles can be idetified.

This is the same example as above but with refinement/coarsening included. Refinement is done by reducing the size of triangles near the cylinder. As new 'big' elements enter area near cylinder from the left, they get cut down to the appropriate size as they approache the cylinder. Coarsening phase is done in the areas where velocity gradients are small(mainly right of the cylinder), and consequently, no fine mesh is required. (You can see how 'crowd of nodes' disappeares after the cylinder). Animation focuses on the area around the cylinder. At the end of simulation, extremely skewed triangles can be idetified.
