This animation shows development of vortex shedding behind the cylinder for flow at Re=100. Flow is initially at rest, and uniform flow is applied from the left. This corresponds to sudden movement of cylinder to the right at the same speed. After initial recirculating areas form, instabilities in the flow appear and stable vortex sheet developes. Simulation is run to approximately 3 lengths of the domain. Computed flow characteristics, Strouhol number, lift and drag coefficient match the experimental ones.
