Usage Notes:
- USERNAME: Local
- The laptop runs Windows NT and Linux.
- Netscape and InternetExplorer are available.
- The machine runs PowerPoint.
- X is configured and you can start it by typing startx.
- Emacs, Perl, Gzip and LaTex are local, meaning you can run
these when you are off the net.
- The internal modem will not work under Linux because that type of
modem (winmodem or mwave) is not supported.
- The pcmcia card, which is a combo card, is configured for Linux. If you
have the card inserted when you boot the machine and have the ethernet
cable connected, it will go out onto the net. When you are traveling with
the machine, leave the card out when you boot into Linux, login, and
then insert the card. After inserting the card the ethernet will try to
start by default.
- There are 2 scripts in /root: one is to stop eth0 and the other is to
start ppp. Each user will have to edit /etc/ppp/pap-secrets to enter their
username and kerberos password to get the ppp script to work right.
