ROBOTICS M.S. CANDIDATES
Students Completing the M.S. in Robotics by August 2002
Robotics Institute
School of Computer Science,
Carnegie Mellon University
5000 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 (412)268-8525
- Expected Completion: July 2001
- Advisor:
William "Red" Whittaker
- Thesis Topic: Scene Modeling from Motion-Free Radar Sensing
- Research Interests:
My professional goal is to investigate and develop mobile robotics, with
emphasis on the transference of technology to industry. An additional
objective is to lead or participate in innovative and fast-paced technology
projects and programs to develop autonomous machines and capable robotic
devices.
- Expected Completion: May 2002
- Advisor:
Dimitrios Apostolopoulos, Yoky Matsuoka
- First Year Projects: Sun-Synchronous Rover Mechanical Design,
Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle Dynamic Analysis
- Second Year Projects:
An Anatomically Based Mechanical Hand,
Wearable Exoskeleton Device for the Disabled
- Research Interests:
My main interests lie in the mechanical design and control of robots and
robotic mechanisms, including mobile robots, actuator designs, and
exoskeletons to name a few. I would like to use robotics to make an impact
on any or all of the following fields: space and planet exploration,
underwater exploration, search and rescue, aids for the disabled, and
military equipment including mobile reconnaissance robots.
My current research is directed towards designing and building a wearable
exoskeleton for the human arm to provide motion and strength for a disabled
or elderly person. A main focus of this research is the investigation of
novel actuator designs. I may also attempt to apply this technology towards
augmenting the strength of a healthy individual for military and/or
industrial applications.
- Notes:
I will most likely be moving back to the Boston area with my wife in the
summer of 2002 and will be interested in obtaining employment at an
engineering company in the region.
