Department of Computer Science and Statistics

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Statistics. Qualifications for the positions include an earned doctorate in computer science by the Fall 1997 and the abilities to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, to conduct scholarly research, to obtain external funding, and to contribute to the scientific computing doctoral program.

The department offers a B.S. degree in computer science and M.S. degrees in computer science and in computational science. The department is an integral part of an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program offered in conjunction with the Departments of Physics/Astronomy and Mathematics.

USM is located in Hattiesburg, Miss. which was recently honored as one of the 10 best small cities in the United States. Hattiesburg is located 75 miles from the Stennis Space Center, which is one of the Department of Defense's four major shared resource centers for advanced, high performance computing. USM participates in the programming and training component associated with this facility.
