The Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE)
-- Each year, the National Science Foundation selects nominees for Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from among the most meritorious new CAREER awardees. The PECASE program recognizes outstanding scientists and engineers who, early in their careers, show exceptional potential for leadership at the frontiers of knowledge. This Presidential Award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers.

  ...he is developing groundbreaking computational methods to describe and simulate the self-assembly of biological structures and cell components. The research will lead to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms controlling reactions in these cell components and allow for more reliable prediction of cellular responses to various interventions. He is integrating his research into novel course material that will prepare general biologists to take advantage of available computational tools and prepare the next generation of computational biologists to advance the state of the art. • Yoky Matsuoka, 2003
  ....For her work in developing a virtual robotic environment for rehabilitation and human augmentation with a novel robotic device -- a safe wearable robotic device. Her work will provide significant impacts to robotics and biomedical areas. She has further demonstrated a dedication to improving the understanding of human perception gap between the perceived and actual movements (neuro-muscular system) and assisting motor-impaired students in their daily tasks.
