Access Fund Creates Endowment From Bebie Bequest

At its meeting in March in Salt Lake City, the Access Fund board of directors voted to establish a restricted endowment fund of $125,000. This amount represents a majority of the bequest received last fall from the estate of Seattle climber Mark Bebie, one of the Access Fund's earliest members, who died in an avalanche in Canada.

The purpose of the endowment is manifold: to facilitate fundraising; to generate income for special projects; to serve as collateral for loans; and to enable the Access Fund to undertake major conservation and acquisition projects quickly. Any withdrawal of endowment funds must be approved by a majority of the board.

Access Fund President Rick Accomazzo thanked the Bebie estate for its generosity, saying, "Mark Bebie's bequest gives the Access Fund long-term financial stability, and makes possible several important projects in the short term such as the Rumney acquisition." John Juraschek, Access Fund executive director, said, "This endowment is an important step in the growth of our organization."

Juraschek noted that climbers can make donations directly to the endowment. For information on how to make the Access Fund a beneficiary of your will, contact the Access Fund at (303) 545-6772.
