Advanced PVM Tutorial

Sunday May 7th, 1995

The advanced tutorial will be taught by Robert Manchek. The target audience of this tutorial is more experienced users of PVM and anyone needing to modify or understand the PVM source code itself.

We will begin with a few PVM programming topics, including some more complex libpvm functions and the tasker, hoster and resource manager interfaces. Jim Pruyne from Madison will make a guest appearance to discuss resource managers.

Next, we will cover the design and implementation of PVM. A road map to the source will be presented and important parts of libpvm and the pvmd will be highlighted. Differences between the socket, shared memory and message-passing PVM versions will also be explained.

Finally, work in progress toward PVM version 3.4 will be presented.
