I am a retired college professor. For more than 40 years I taught German and
Russian, my two native languages. Then, in 1970, during a research project, by
chance I developed a hobby: Sphragistics = sigillography = the science of seals on
documents.
Now I specialize in the reproduction of historic seals as they were used on
documents. My collection encompasses several thousand seals from many countries
covering seven thousand years.
The majority of my seals are from the Middle Ages. The reproductions are made of
a special high-temperature wax of a melting point above 190°F.
