Journal of Automated Reasoning Editor-in-Chief: Deepak Kapur University of New York at Albany, U.S.A. SCOPE The Journal of Automated Reasoning is an interdisciplinary journal that maintains a balance between theory, implementation, and application. The spectrum of material ranges from the presentation of a new inference rule with proofs of its logical properties to a detailed account of a computer program designed to solve some problem for industry. The papers published in this journal are from, among others, the fields of automated theorem proving, logic programming, expert systems, program synthesis and validation, artificial intelligence, computational logic, robotics, and various industrial applications. The papers share the common feature of focusing on some aspect of automated reasoning, a field whose objective is the design and implementation of a computer program that serves as an assistant in solving problems and in answering questions that require reasoning. The journal provides a forum and a means for exchanging information for those interested purely in theory, those interested primarily in implementation, and those interested in specific research and industrial applications. Submission of Manuscripts: Authors submitting a manuscript for publication in the Journal of Automated Reasoning should send five copies to an appropriate member of the editorial board. Detailed Information for Authors is available from: The Journals Office, Kluwer Academic Publishers, P.O. Box 17, 3300 AA Dordrecht, The Netherlands. (Telephone (31) 78-334326. Telex 29245 kapg nl.) Books for Review are invited and should be sent direct to the Book Review Editor, Rick Stevens, Mathematics and Computer Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL 60439, U.S.A. Free Offprints: Twenty-five offprints of each article will be provided free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered against payment. No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions. Journal of Automated Reasoning is surveyed by The ACM Guide to Computing Literature, INSPEC Information Services, Robomatix Reporter, CAD/CAM Abstracts, The Turing Institute Abstracts in Artificial Intelligence, Engineering Information, Knowledge Engineering Review, Mathematical Reviews, Computer & Information Systems Abstracts Journal, Computer Abstracts.
