Look for the new FAQs by Charles Poynton, Adrian Ford and myself, it's all
in there. Two are already posted, they are
    elaine.crcg.edu:/pub/doc/colour/ColorFAQ.pdf
    elaine.crcg.edu:/pub/doc/colour/GammaFAQ.pdf
but you'll Adobe Acrobat reader to read them (available from ftp.adobe.com)

A third FAQ, full of formulae is being posted right now, contact Adian
Ford at ajoec1@westminster.ac.uk to see where he's putting it.

All should then become clear.

Meanwhile...

coloureq.txt a replacement / alternative is available from

wmin.ac.uk in /pub/itrg via anonymous ftp

ColorFAQ.pdf a longer, more chatty, explanation of colour in the
             digital domain is available from

elaine.crcg.edu in /pub/doc/color in Adobe acrobat format,

Acrobat readers for many platforms are available from adobe.com
also by ftp.

If required I will gladly post coloureq.txt

Hope that helps...
