No.  It needs to be something with a view toward the future, e.g.,

comp.recog.machineprint
comp.recog.handprint
comp.recog.signature
comp.recog.face

and so on.  The group would be "Recognition of Images: Characters,
Signatures, Faces, ..." and would grow as new technology and needs
develop.

As to your first question: "[Am I] interested in having a newsgroup
created?"
