Our research group is looking for a low cost option for a PC frame
grabber to put into a 486DX2-66 with local bus, and ISA slots. The card
has to be capable of grabbing a 512 by 512 eight bit monochrome image,
preferably in one, or at a push two, video frames, so line per frame
grabbing is not an option.

In the past we have bought an Amplicon card, but the new version of this
which does 1024 by 1024 costs in the region of 1800 pounds, and we would
really like something a lot cheaper than this. In particular we would
be interested in combined SVGA video adapters, with a video in line
which support capture of external video frames. The frame capture rate
does not have to be particularly high, but as I have said we do want a
reasonably short frame capture time. We have heard rumours of cards
born from the multimedia market which fullfill these functions for a
fairly low cost. If anyone knows of any such cards I would be really
interested in hearing about them. Ideally we are looking for a local
bus card that has a windows accelerated SVGA driver, with 1MB of image
memory and a video in line, which the card can grab from. This way we
hope to reduce the system cost, and get away with only one monitor, ie
video in window approach.

Any info much appreciated.
