Posting this for a friend.

| I am starting PhD research in multi media IR. I want to know a couple of
| things about image processing software/techniques. Basically, I've got two
| main questions:
|
| 1) Does anybody know anything about the Excalibur image processing tools.
| Experiences with the tool or the address of Excalibur inc. would be
| appreciated.
|
| 2) Is there any image processing software that is sophisticated enough to
| be able to identify (certain) entities in a photograph (eg. person,
| animal, car, plane, ...). More generally, what is the state of the art in
| in image processing, and what can be expected in the near future?
|
| Any help would be highly appreciated!
|
| Thanks in advance,
|
