SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering will
award scholarships and grants again in 1995. The awards will
range in size from $500 to $5000.

Applications will be judged by the scholarship committee on the
basis of the long range contribution which the granting of the
award would make to optics and optical engineering. Awards will
not be made on the basis of need.

Application may be made for funding of any activity in the field
of optics. A course of study in optics or optical engineering and
student travel (related to attendance at SPIE functions only) are
appropriate uses for scholarship and grant awards. Equipment
purchase funds, while less suitable, will be considered. Student
candidates should use the scholarship application (yellow) while
universities and colleges should use the grant application
(blue).

It is the intent of SPIE to provide equal opportunities without
regard to race or ethnicity, creed, color, sex, national origin,
age, marital status, religious preference, the presence of any
sensory, mental, or physical disability, or status as a disabled
or Vietnam-era veteran.

Applications must be received at SPIE Headquarters no later than
April 7, 1995.

The recommendations of the SPIE Scholarship Committee will be
acted upon by the Board of Directors during SPIE's Annual Meeting
in San Diego which will be held 9-14 July 1995. All candidates
will be notified shortly thereafter of the outcome of their
applications.
