X-Rite makes a number of portable colorimeters and spectrophotometers with
serial interfaces. On the Mac, they have an Init called X-Key which reads
data from the measurement device and inserts it into the keyboard input
stream, thus allowing for entry directly into spreadsheets, word
processors and other applications. These instruments are rechargeable
battery powered.

X-Rite is at 616-534-7663 in the U.S., (49) 2203-91450 in Germany, (852)
5686283 in Hong Kong.

Gretag also makes battery powered spectrophotometers with serial
interfaces, but they require a custom program to read in the data (on a
Mac. I do not know about PC software for these devices).

Photo Research makes telespectrophotometers that work quite well and have
PCMCIA card storage and serial interfaces for PC (which can easily be
changed to Mac format).

If you need the Gretag and Photo Research telephone numbers, email me at
myers.r@applelink.apple.com and I'll look them up.
