This may not be hi-res enough for you, but ...

I have a hi-8 camcorder (sharp) that has shutter speeds
up to (at least) 1/1000 of a second (maybe 1/10,000 sec).

Could you video what you are interested in with an
extremely short shutter speed and then capture
a playback (paused or regular frame rate)?
