Hi Folks,

I am up for tenure at Vanderbilt this year. One of the most significant
things that I have done (in terms of time spent anyway) was to
write the morphology software that is free for the taking at my ftp
site. Lots of people have downloaded it and passed it around.

Now, as all you assistant professors know, writing software doesn't
count for hooey as far as promotion and tenure committees are
concerned. As a matter of fact, they tell you it is a waste of time.

However, in the grand scheme of things, if someone other than me is
actually using the software, then I have made a contribution to
research and Knowledge. -- at least that's what I think.
More people are probably using my software than reading my papers! :^)

Anyway, I would like to be able to present, in my tenure dossier,
some evidence that my software has been useful beyond my own research.
So, if you are using it or have used it, would you please be so kind
as to drop me an e-mail note telling me that you have. I would
be grateful for comments on it, too. Please also tell me what instituion
you are associated with and your title.

We are all in this together.

Thank-you very much!
