These file are here so they will not be lost to posterity.
They are the makings of a more aggressive (and hence more contentful)
PS9 based on a blend of the standard old un-motivated ``measure some
data and drool at the results'' prob set and the slightly over-hard
Jinx re-write (Spring 91) for a ``look at a bunch of nifty but tricky
optimization ideas and be impressed''.

Hal wimped out this term and made the PS9 largely trivial because the
term's calendar was all screwed up by the term starting on a Thorsday.
Consequently, we didn't get to the lecture on the compiler until about
four days before the prob set is due... I guess we cannot expect the
students to hack out a bunch of nifty extensions to code they don't
look at until 4 days before the due date. Maybe at Cal Tech they can
get away with that. but not at MIPCT anymore.

Grumble.
