They offered a better deal than the national companies (Allstate and State Farm, for example). Beware of two different types of policy. The so called cash policy let's them look at something a bit old and give you almost nothing for it. The alternative is a replacement policy in which they depreciate a bit but allow you up to 400% of the original cost to replace something at today's prices. I found Allstate to be incompetent (multiple copies of the policy mailed, incorrect address, unable to reach the agent on the policy to change address. I also discovered from another Allstate agent that the phone number to contact my supposed agent was not in fact the agent's number listed in his book.) State Farm offered much the same deal as Allstate (Cash policy, 100$ deductible all peril, $250 for theft.) The AIA offered $100 deductible on both and a lower rate on the cash policy.
