Steve Tanimoto is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. He has taught courses on artificial intelligence, programming languages, data structures, algorithms, parallel processing, computer vision, graphics, and computers in education.

His current research focusses on the use of the use of image processing in mathematics education. Related work includes, cooperative interface systems, and user modeling for computer-assisted instruction. In the past, he has studied image data structures, parallel architectures and algorithms for image processing, and visual languages.

Once in a while, he finds time to play the piano, preferring jazz and classical fare.
