Trento Meeting Aug 19-20 2002 Notes

* Loredana: changes to architecture and interfaces
  - saving maps in whiteboard: now a quick save button in addition to
    the regular save button
  - also add: at end of session/dialogue ask user about saving the map
    before quiting.  Also before loading another map
  - suggestion: at end of session, move all maps to a subdir named
    with the time/date of the session
  - Buttons for "system at work", "cancel translation", "enable audio"
  - Dialog History Window now includes "system understands" and
    "remote speech translation"
  - need to see these in demonstration - on Tuesday morning!
  - then a working group will decide on changes to interfaces and report
    back to plenary in afternoon
  - G.723 will not be ready for demo in Berlin, Franco thinks it doesn't
    effect the video transmission much anyway
  - G.723 work will continue in parallel to demo
  - try using H.263 codec for video - better for low bandwidth
  - tests for LangTech will be with and without video
  - silence detection: Doms has a process for detecting speech/noise
    at the HLT server level - will check with Franco about moving it
    to the Mediator

* Lori: Status of IF
  - Medical Domain IF should be stable and data annotated by end of Sep-02
* Nadia: annotation of Italian Showcase-2A data

* Alon: report on HLT development for showcase-2A
* Florian and Kornel update on recognizer development

* Roldano: Updated analysis, no major changes in system
  - classifier is 20% worse on agent side than on client
* Emanuele: working on updating the Italina generator for showcase-2A

* Laurent: Update about French HLT components

* Erica: Second Multi-modal experiment and/or User Study
  - consensus: go for a user study to assess usability of the system
    not another multi-modal experiment with different conditions
  - Erica will circulate a proposal for the design and implementation
    of this kind of a user study

* Alon: Overview of Evaluation proposal for showcase-2

* Nadia and Florian: data collection for Medical Domain

* LangTech-2002 in Berlin:
  - Participants: Fabio, John, Kornel?, German speaker?, French Speaker?
  - Technical Coordinators: Roldano, Chad, John, Laurent

  ** Full tests of demo for Berlin start on Sept 9
  ** Questionaire for users ready by Sept 20
  ** LangTech Demo in Berlin: Thu-Fri Sept 26-27
  ** People in charge of tests: Roldano, Chad, Laurent, John
  ** AMTA-2002 demo in Tiburon during week of Oct 8.

- Interface:
  ** version2 to be circulated and installed by all partners
  ** version3 to be circulated by Sept 11, possibly use it for LangTech
  ** Localisation of interfaces to be done later

- Video:
  ** test with video starting with technical tests: use H.263 codec

- Silence Detection:
  ** test with current NetMeeting silence detection
  ** new version of Mediator with filtering of speech may be ready
     by Sept 5, possibly tried by Roldano

- Showcase-2B: Medical
  ** Data transcription complete by end of August
  ** Annotation of data with IF complete by end of September
  ** HLT development during October (up to mid Nov?)
  ** Sites keep track of development times for IF and HLT development

  ** Alon will circulate draft evaluation plan by mid-Sept.
  ** Final plan ready by mid October
  ** Evaluation of Shocase-2A in early November
  ** Evaluation of Showcase-2B in early December

- Deliverables:
  ** D13: IF (CMU): ready by??
  ** D14: Annotated data for showcase-2 (CMU/Nadia): partially complete (2A),
          full draft by end of October, final by end of November
  ** D15: STST system (CMU): HLT module descriptions from each site,
          ready by January-03
  ** D16  Synchronization+MM Environment (IRST): focus on interfaces?
          ready by December?
  ** D17: Second Showcase (AETHRA): Archtecture and interfaces, by January-03
  ** D18: Evaluation (CMU): final report ready by end of January-03
  ** D19: TIP: first draft of section1 and section3 ready by end of October
               section2 should be drafted based on other deliverables
