I ' m Gregor Craigy . Such incidents have become a daily routine and maximum responsibility for this lies on the government Such culprits should be hanged in the open Umar Hussain , Pakistan The people who indulge in such activities are not fit to be called human . Such people should be dealt with sternly Azeem Ayub , Lahore It is shameful to have such incidents in an Islamic society . May Allah show them the right path Rahil Sarwar , Multan This is a propaganda against Pakistan . Such incidents occur everywhere . This is not an issue of sexual violence but that of psychiatry In western countries , even teachers and priests indulge in such acts . For God sake please don’t portray it as if it is an issue only for Pakistan Mohammed Khan , Pakistan In my opinion , the Prime Minister should set up special force to provide protection to the children Pakistan Supreme Court has ordered release of Peoples Party leader Asif Ali Zardari while accepting his bail in BMW case on Monday . On this occasion BBC journalist Aliya Haider talked to Asif Ali Zardari Click here to listen the interview Aliya Haider : How do you feel on getting bail Asif Zardari : It cannot be expressed in words . How can a man describe his freedom . So far I am within these walls and feel like I am still there . I will tell you when I go out and see the world Aliya : Haven’t you got the release order Asif Zardari : Miss , there is a procedure . The papers are sent to the High Court whenever a bail is granted by the Supreme Court . From there papers are sent to subordinate court which then sends the release order . Release would be made when jail authorities receive the release order Aliya : Some people say you were holding some talks with the government and your release is a result of that deal Asif Zardari : This should be asked from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as has granted the bail . If he had done it after asking the government then he must be aware of it . I was making efforts for last one and a half year to get bail Aliya : Don’t you agree to the allegations about a deal Asif Zardari : Allegations , I am still to get out and you are talking about allegations . I believe it is a difference of opinion . And if I had to come out after a deal then why couldn’t I do it eight years earlier Aliya : What is your future plan Asif Zardari : Future plan is to be in politics and serve the party ; firstly , to pay a visit to the graveyards of the elders and Mr . Bhutto . I have to thank all the friends who stood by our side . I have to go the houses of the friends who are not amongst us like Munawwar Suharwardi and secondly those who are no more and lost their lives in this struggle Aliya : Will you become a part of the campaign which the opposition is due to begin against President’s uniform Asif Zardari : Presently I am not being released from the hospital . Doctors have advised me rest fro two weeks Aliya : But President Musharraf’s uniform is anyhow an important issue Asif Zardari : Entire Pakistan is an important issue , uniform is an important issue , democracy is an important issue Aliya : Will you be a part of this campaign or not Asif Zardari : In my opinion , I am a part of this movement . If you don’t agree what can I do . Why does a person goes to jail . He goes to jail for his principles , for the country , for the democracy , for the struggle and the struggle is going on Aliya : So , you were waging struggle from inside the jail . Now that you are free what will be your policy I have seen it with my eyes I cannot live here any more . I did not believe on what my son said . Later , progressive writers were dismissed in Karachi , Hyderabad , Lahore and Multan The newspapers and magazines were shut down in Sindh and Punjab when voice of the creator was not silenced . Hundreds of journalists were dismissed . Censorship was imposed on newspapers . To the extent that even Quranic verses were also censored It was 13th May , the summer heat was at its peak We were taken along with senior journalists from camp jail to Samri military court . A group of thirty chained journalists including Aslam Sheikh , Salim Aasmi , Ali Ahmed Khan and Nisar Usmani waited for hours in the Sun for hearing to begin Finally , hearing began in groups of four and sentences were pronounced within fifteen minutes . Nine months in jail with hard work , one year in jail with hard work . Those given nine month imprisonment used to see in awe the other awarded a sentence for one year . Friend , you have gone ahead of us . It was our turn . Khawar Naeem Hashmi , Masood Ullah Khan , Iqbal Cahudhary and I were produced in the court . We all were handcuffed . A fat Major stood up as soon as we went inside . Another soldier brought the Quran . Major putting his hand over the Quran said , ' I swear in the name of God ' . He had uttered only this much that weak voice of Naeem Hashmi emerged , ' wait ! what is the need to stage this drama , you have to pronounce punishment , do it ' . The court was furious , considered it offensive and said , ' you think we would surrender before you journalists , this will never happen . ' I turned back , it was the voice of our senior friend Masood Ullah Khan . The court was adjourned . We were called up again for hearing after five minutes , Major sahib was delivering his judgement . We came out , all our colleagues were waiting . We all shouted together passionately and told them that we would also be lashed 35 journalists were arrested on occasion of world freedom of press day in Islamabad recently While taking us to jail from the court all colleagues except our group was dropped at the camp jail while our group was taken to Kot Lakhpat jail . As soon as we entered the jail courtyard after completing routine formalities we found a wrestler type of a man waving a hunter in his hand and the inmates were sitting in a circle around a podium A Captain was present there for executing the orders Masood Ullah Khan was a handicap but kept on insisting , ' friend , lash me too ' . But the doctor said it would be ' risky ' to lash him . We were tied on the podium turn by turn , in a manner that we were naked and they whipped us one by one after putting pencil marks below our backs Wounds were inflicted . We continued to think , was this the freedom for which our elders struggled ? Our dream was shattered The journey of freedom continued . The struggle saga against the shackles on press is going on still today . During Zia ul Haq ' s press conference in Lahore Late Nisar Usmani had said ' ' Listen General Sahib , you can hang but the future generations would keep our flag high but no sign of yours would be left ' . There are curbs on press even today . But as the world has changed so have the trends of restrictions . The newspapers earlier followed the ' visible advise ' but now they are bounded by ' invisible ' restrictions . Writers are fighting for their just rights and the wage award Intolerable editors are removed by applying pressure on the owners Officials make claims of freedom of press with great shamelessness . The law ' s grip on investigative journalism is strong , the iron man threatens journalists in public meetings and the sharp writers are banned from writing in their own newspapers . Black laws against the press are present in their terrible form . New defamation law is a sword on the freedom of expression . Nothing has changed . Press was held captive yesterday it is captive today . Even today journalists are standing firm for the freedom of press In Iraq , an army camp was attacked with mortar and bombs resulting in killing of four Iraqi troops while four others were wounded . The attack took place at Khan Bani Saed in north of Baghdad Apart from this an Iraqi army convoy was targeted with a bomb . Two civilians were killed and four wounded in this attack . Two troops were also injured in this incident In Iraq , even after formation of a new government in April the cycle of violent incidents continues in the country . These incidents have left dozens of people killed Meanwhile , during her Iraq visit the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the political process needs more progress to end violence in the country Pakistan bans bear fight In Pakistani province of Punjab ban has been imposed on fighting between bear and dogs This ban was imposed when a worker of world wildlife protection organization witnessed a fight and took action against it This sport is quite popular in Punjab and stakes are made on animals A tied teeth less bear fights two dogs in this fight The helpless bear usually gets badly wounded during this fight of three minutes . People put money on dogs and the loser has to give this amount to the dogs ' owner According to a BBC correspondent this game is played for the entertainment of big landlords . Landlords spend lots of money on this fight The game is played between the months of November and April According to world wildlife protection organization ' s Victor Watkins such fights are held on a large scale in Jhang district . He said steps are being taken to put to an end this fight between the bear and the dog Victor Watkins has congratulated and commended the step taken by the Pakistan government President Musharraf had approved a bill in 2001 banning this brutal sport of bear and dog On President Musharraf ' s directive order was passed to send these bears to Khand Park in the Frontier province Karachi is said to be a city of lights The country ' s biggest industrial city having largest percentage of literates has people in grip of superstitions . They make all kinds of efforts to fulfill their wishes People begin to come over city ' s old bridge called , ' native jetty ' as the evening sets in Which includes children to older people Over twenty five people have set up vends on the footpath of this bridge and they sell rinsed flour for five to ten rupees This flour is kept in plastic plates . Most of the people coming here throw these plates in water flowing below the bridge It is their belief that fish would eat that flour and their wishes would be fulfilled The ' native jetty ' bridge built by the British has another identity for the local populace and it is also related to deaths of the people in mysterious circumstances . And two to three suicide cases are reported on this bridge in a month . But this bridge has also become a place for the people where their wishes are fulfilled A student named Irshad who was throwing flour in the water for the fish said he has come on the bridge for a walk from Martin Quarter He has not made any wish , however , his friends visit this place during their examinations with a desire for success Has anybody ' s desire been fulfilled ? Irsahd said one of his relative is a government servant . He had no children He came here on every Thursday . A girl was born to him three years back Nobody knows for how long this cycle of making wishes is going on the ' native jetty ' Kamal a resident of Mianwali says that he is selling flour here for quite a long period . Earlier , he used to ply a rickshaw . But when petrol became costlier he started selling flour . Now he earns about one hundred fifty rupees daily . He sells three kilogram four everyday . while during special nights this quantity gets double A man told he is coming here for last eight years . There is not even a little space over here on Shab - e - Barat He had a slip in his hand . He said it is a request on which the wish that one has is written . Then it is folded in the flour and thrown into the water after reciting prayers Mehmood among a couple coming from Liari said they have come here for a walk He said people come here with wishes of service , child and marriage . And on fulfillment of their wishes they bring one kilogram flour , millet or grains from their houses and throw it into the water There is huge crowd on every Monday and Thursday . Even people having cars come here to throw flour into the water Women coming here are usually veiled . A woman was making prayers with folded hands . She said she does not have any wish or desire but was just praying When a man throwing flour into the water was asked had it not been better if he had given these two rupees to a poor he said it is also a creation of the God Some disappointed people also come here for ending their lives though at this place people come for a walk or make wishes for their lives and happiness A signboard here states ' do not litter ' but people continue to throw waste and bags in big quantity The interesting aspect is that a launch passes through the place fishing with the help of a net after every thirty minutes where people throw the flour This the same fish that comes to eat the flour but becomes a prey itself . And probably it is the same fish with whom the people make their wishes
