Analysis of standard deviations
We repeated the synthetic data analysis using the sinusoidal curves and this time, in addition to computing the average error we have
also recorded the standard deviation for the error of each of the three methods (TSP, PQ-trees and our continuous ordering).
The results are presented below. As can be seen, the standard deviation error bars are large when only a few time points are used.
However, as the number of time points increases these bars become smaller while the difference between the PQ-trees results and the
Spline results increases. This indicates that the differences are real and not the result of chance.
Note that the averages we report are based on 100 randomization trials.
