M51

Sketch, 2000/3/5, with 8" Dobsonian, 25mm eyepiece. 1 degree field of view. Observed from Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh. Two fuzzy round clouds, together like an "8". Bright spot at the center of each cloud. No obvious condensation. Very faint. The left one is larger, which is M51. The right one is smaller, which is NGC 5159. No 'bridge' between the two galaxies is visible. In fact no detail is visible. Should observe it out of city in the future. The bright star at top is magnitude 7.
