Shortly after sunset, the earth shadow (the dark blue band) rises above the east horizon, and the belt of Venus (the pink band, also called antitwilight arch) is immediately above the earth shadow.

The photo below is taken from air with a Nikon Coolpix 995 camera on 2002/8/16. It shows the earth shadow rising from the north horizon.
