A position in an industrial setting with emphasis on computer science,  preferably in information technologies including networking, data mining and text/multimedia information processing.

Research and Working Experiences

  • August 1997 to current time, Ph.D. student in the School of Computer Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, working in the information retrieval group focusing on Mono/Cross-lingual Information RetrievalText Categorization and Topic Detection and Tracking. Implemented Latent Semantic Indexing(LSI), Generalized Vector Space Model(GVSM) and Linear Least Square Fitting(LLSF) retrieval methods. (libg++ w/STL) 
  • October 1997 to December 1997, "An e-Auction Scheme on Multicasting Networks", course project for "Vivsecting Internet" at Carnegie Mellon University.
  • March 1994 to July 1997, Research Assistant in the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems in  China.  Project: EBMT(NSF project, MS VC++4.0), the DEC Machine Translation System (Borland C++ 3.1), Chinese Text Segmentation/Tagging(GNU CC). 
  • September 1995 to October 1996, part-time system programmer of Wenjie Software Corporation in Beijing, taking a key role in implementing  the WinChar Chinese Proofreading System. (Borland C++ 3.1)
  • December 1994 to June 1995, part-time programmer of Tsinghua Able Software Company in Beijing, responsible for the Able High School CAI Software System (Borland C++ 3.1).
  • February 1993 to July 1993, design and implementation of the circuit of an 8-bit prototype computer, working on a set of simple Arithmetic, Logical and I/O instructions. (Hardware)
