The USI project (a.k.a. "speech graffiti") is an attempt to design a universal speech interface allowing humans to communicate effectively, efficiently and effortlessly with simple machines and information services.

Our current application testbeds include:

• USI/MovieLine: a telephone-based interactive service that allows users to find out about movies and movie theaters in the Pittsburgh area.
• USI/ApartmentLine: a similar service with information about housing rentals around CMU.
• USI/FlightLine: flight departures, arrivals and gate information.
• USI/Gadget: wireless control of gadgets and devices: stereo system, house appliances, ...
