AFS Quota Changes

Changes to the Backup Systems

Kirk Berthold presented a short talk about recent changes to the SCS Backup systems. A summary:

  • AFS backup system now uses larger tapes (and rewritten software) to accomodate the larger sizes of volumes discussed in Rob's talk.
  • PC and Unix backups now provided by TIBS software, which only needs to do incremental backups. This allows for much faster backup processing.
  • Volume limits have been increased to 100GB per system.
  • Facilities is experimenting with a new system for mobile and special case backups.

IMAP Mail Quotas

Tod Pike presented a topic on the upcoming implementation of quotas on the IMAP mail servers. A summary of the topic can be found in the draft quota document, found here: link.

UX7/UX8 Retirement

A short talk about the upcoming retirement of UX7 and UX8 was presented by Tod Pike. Users are encouraged to move to the IMAP server, and will be contacted by the Help Desk shortly to facilitiate the move. Both UX7 and UX8 are old Solaris machines that are constantly running out of disk space and are nearing the end of their useful life.
