The meeting was called to order by Tod Pike of Computing Facilities, followed by some introductions. 38 people were in attendance.

Hot Topics and Announcements:
  1. Grad student PC committee. The grad student PC committee has been meeting regularly to decide on the configuration for the systems for incoming students. The proposed (not final) configuration is: Dell OptiPlex GS270. Full details of the configuration will be released soon.
  2. RedHat 9. Facilitization of RedHat 9 is well underway and this will be the release for the incoming students in the fall. If anyone wants to be an alpha tester for this config, please contact Tod Pike tod.pike@cs.cmu.edu.
  3. E-mail Ad-Hoc committee. A new ad-hoc committee has started, to make recommendations on upgrades to the e-mail infrastructure.

Clauss Strauch, Rob Smith, and Jonathan Billings of Computing Facilities, spoke collectively on the topic of Computer and Network Security. Slides from their talks can be found at the following links:
