About Me |
|
I was born in New Bern, North Carolina. I graduated from New Bern High School and decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, NC.
After graduating from NCSU, I moved to the Portland, OR area to work for Intel Corporation. While at Intel, I obtained my Master’s degree in Computer Science at the Oregon Graduate Institute at the Oregon Health and Science University with an emphasis in Human Computer Interfaces. I worked at Intel for seven (7) years as a software engineer developing desktop and network software products for Original Equipment Manufacturers.
I decided to leave Intel to pursue my PhD in Human Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon in order to research the use of social computing to help people reduce their energy consumption. I am interested in analyzing individual motivations, behaviors, cultures, socioeconomic status, and other demographic information to understand how we can reduce our energy consumption as groups and/or individuals.
Upon completing my PhD, I would like to work in academia as a professor and continue to apply social technology to develop research solutions in areas such as sustainability, education and health that have positive and significant impacts to society. |
